I Enjoy My Freedom, Do you?

As many of you know Against the Grain started working with Williamson County Jail January 2010. Many people laugh when I say “I am going to jail today” or ” I just got back from jail” or ” I just got out”. For me those 10 hours are some of the best times of my week.
You may ask why? Well I am going to tell you.
I LOVE LIFE, I LOVE MY FREEDOM.

Passports
Our Passports!

I have the freedom to get up when I want, go to bed when I want, eat when I want, love on my children and grandchildren when I want.
But I have to tell you I take for granted living in America that I can go to the bathroom shut a door and sit down in peace on a toilet seat that is plastic or plush (if you like those).

When finished I turn on the water to wash my hands and use “Bath and Body” Watermelon antibacterial hand soap and a plush towel. I totally dislike sandwiches and not to be able to cook out when I want would be a devastation.

Wow do I sound like a snob or what… but we live in Franklin TN so I should be able to do this if I want right…well today I look at all of that as a gift.

Yes I am a law abiding citizen but I also am a realist…I understand that all of us no matter how good we think we are… We all are one STUPID mistake away from having our address be 408 Century Court.

You see, if you live at 408 Century Ct you LOSE all those freedoms.

Your soap cost dollars and is the size of a small bar. You have no privacy for anything and if you get out of hand you go on lock down for however long 24 hours- 72 hours – 30 days… at that time you lose phone service, TV, and you sit on your bunk.

I did not realize how much freedom you lose when you take into account the little things….soap, toilet seats, food, doors, human contact with your children… you maybe saying well they deserve to lose all this, they did not follow the law… you are correct and I believe you, but…here me when I say… this is about US… what do we take for granted?

So next time you get upset because you have to mow the lawn again, or have to go to the grocery store for the “BIG SHOP” thank God that you have that FREEDOM.
